Hotel GB is launching on Channel 4 on the 1st October, it's a new channel 4 reality television show which see well known popular faces running a hotel for a week. It's purpose is to take unemployed people desperate for a break and enable them to demonstrate how hard working they are. The aim will then be to get their trainees into full time employment by the end of the week, whilst making as much money as possible for employment charities.
The hotel will be split into two teams Gordon's and Mary's, each day guests will arrive and go through the typical customer experience, only how typical will this experience be when you have the likes of, Gordon Ramsay and Mary Portas as hotel managers. Gok Wan as events manager, Kim Woodburn as head of housekeeping and Kirstie Allsop as concierge, to name but a few.
So what made Robert Holland, GM at Bermondsey Square hotel agree to the hotel being used in the reality TV show? Talking to Hotel and Caterer Robert commented the following, "As an independent hotel, I am always keen to look at ways of publicising the hotel in unconventional ways," he explained. "The focus on employment in hospitality, as well as the stellar cast involved, were enough to convince us to take part. I was also reassured that the plan was to run 'the best hotel in the world' rather than be a repeat of the Britannia hotel in Liverpool. I am hoping that the programme will help find it easier to recruit staff going forward. I am quite astonished that for all of the press in regards to the level of unemployment, my colleagues in hotel hotels and I, find it so difficult to recruit chefs and waiters. I currently employ 21 nationalities within my 50 staff."
So tune into channel 4 tonight on the 1st October for 5 nights to see how these famous faces work together to create what could be a fantastic one off experience for their customers. We'd expected 100% on a mystery visit, what say you?
