Even before the football season has started it's hard to escape the incessant chat and speculation, but as the first day of the Premiership looms on the horizon it's time for sports bars and pubs to ensure their plans are in place.
Getting it right on the kick-off is more important this year than ever. The advent of BT Sport has brought, for the first time in many years, a wealth of Premiership games into people's home for free, and Sky Sports in retaliation will be offering the first day of Premiership football for free on Saturday 17
th August.
In the past pubs may have been able to rely on the dominance of Sky Sports to help them boost their trade during the season, with those wanting to watch those key clashes visiting their local for a few hours rather than taking out the annual subscription to the channel.
This year though, pubs will need to be on the ball to make sure they tempt customers in for those Saturday and Sunday games. Perhaps drinks deals, table service, allowing table reservations or providing free nibbles might help to entice fans from their sofas to the bar.
It could prove to be a tough season from the start, and it will be up to the individual businesses to ensure they tempt football fans in rather than taking them for granted.
