10th July 2017
HGEM Business Development Manager Matthew Smith attended the Propel Multiclub Summer Event on July 6. Here’s what stood out for him:
- Roger Perowne, Chief Executive of Morar Consulting, gave an insightful talk about BIG DATA. This was particularly interesting as at HGEM we really understand the value of data – not only is it useful for our clients in terms of reporting and analysis, but we can also use it for integration purposes. We’ve partnered with companies such as Fourth, Fishbowl, Tahola, S4 Labour, Vidleos and Trail to do this, with more opportunities in the pipeline.
- David Bruce, co-founder of Firkin Pubs, The Capital Pub Company and The City Pub Companies - now chairman of The West Berkshire Brewery - gave a highly entertaining talk on his extensive career journey. He has raised more than £100m through EIS schemes and crowdfunding in the past two decades.
- Nisha Katona, a former barrister and founder of Indian street food brand Mowgli, discussed turning her passion into a business and her obsession with the quality of her food. This was one of the most talked about speeches of the day – other attendees said that it really made them reflect on their own businesses and reminded them that great guest experience starts with great food.
- Jonathan Arana-Morton, co-founder of The Breakfast Club - whose venues have a cult following and are infamous for their huge queues - gave a brilliant and heartfelt talk. The brand really values their team and understands how important motivated and engaged staff are when it comes to guest experience, so they are rewarded with holidays and encouraged to participate in community projects.
