Well, we think that a huge 'congratulations' is in order for Leon co-founders John Vincent and Henry Dimbleby, who were both awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list in recognition of their hard work creating the School Food Plan.
The School Food Plan was published back in July 2013 and has backing from the Secretary of State for Education along with many other key organisations. The plan includes a series of 17 actions for schools and the government to help transform what children eat and how they learn about food. The actions proposed include everything from setting up breakfast clubs and introducing food standards to providing head teachers with food and nutrition training.
The owners of the healthy fast-food chain were told that their work has significantly improved school food and culture. Commenting on the honour, Vincent said: "Writing and helping to implement the School Food Plan was a massive privilege and a character-building task. This recognition is a tribute to all of the people who work hard every day to provide health, pleasure and improve attainment to our children. Let's all keep going."
The duo's plan compliments actions carried out by other influential figures in the food industry such as celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, who since 2005 has worked to improve food quality in schools across the UK and beyond. Last month saw the launch of Oliver's latest campaign, Food Revolution Day, which is fighting to put compulsory food education on the school curriculum.
