As many of you will already know, this week is UK Coffee Week!
From 4-10 May, coffee chains, along with hundreds of independents, come together to raise vital funds for the third world countries that supply us with our coffee.
Brands are celebrating UK Coffee Week in many different ways, organising in-store events, offering discounts and giving out free food with coffee purchases. Starbucks, for instance, is donating 25p for every Flat White bought, while BHS is handing out a free muffin with all coffees, and donating 5p per cup to charity. And coffee producers are joining in, too: Black Circle Coffee is donating 50p for every bag of their Pondering Tiger Coffee sold.
Many independents have organised in-store activities for their customers, such as coffee tasting, craft events, live music, competitions and latte art classes.
All money raised will be directed to Project Waterfall; an initiative developed by the Allegra Foundation. Project Waterfall has raised over £290,000 since 2011, delivering clean water to more than 13,000 people in coffee growing countries.
Kicking things off earlier this week was London Coffee Festival, where 50% of each ticket sold was donated to Project Waterfall. And, this Friday (8 May), the Great Coffee Sack Race takes place in Regent's Park. Other initiatives include the Coffee Waterfall Mosaic and the Coffee Art Project; a high-profile art competition for artists across the globe, with money raised going to Project Waterfall.
So, if there was ever a perfect time to get out and grab yourself a coffee, it's this week!
