HGEM News
HGEM were delighted to be awarded Employer of the Year at this year’s black-tie awards gala at Bath Pavilion for their mental health peer support programme which has now been in place for a year.
The stats around mental health say a lot: as many as one in four British workers are affected by conditions such as anxiety, depression and stress every year, according to the Time to Change campaign. Yet 95% of employees would prefer to call in sick with a made-up reason, rather than reveal the truth about their poor mental health.
HGEM has always been a people-friendly place to work; an environment where people can be honest with each other and share their personal thoughts and experiences. But now mental health is something that we talk about openly and freely on a daily basis to ensure that everyone knows that they have support, whenever they need it or choose to seek it.
Our Operations & HR Director Lisa Chambers has made it her mission to ensure that every employee at HGEM had a greater awareness of their own mental health and how important it was to be considerate of other people’s mental wellbeing. At HGEM we think this is the start of a new era for HR and we are proud to be leading the way.
